We are responsible for the areas of bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology in research and teaching, as well as for all infection diagnostics in patient care. Within the framework of antibiotic stewardship, our personal consultation and regular infection rounds ensure close and collegial infectiological-microbiological care for the clinics of the University Medical Center Göttingen as well as other hospitals. In addition, we offer tropical medicine consultations and vaccinations in our travel medicine consultation hours. As a consultant laboratory for Toxoplasma, we are the point of contact for both medical professionals and those affected by this parasitic infectious disease.

Our research aims to contribute to a better understanding of the epidemiology, diagnostics and pathogenesis of infectious diseases.

We take great pleasure in introducing students of medicine, dentistry, molecular medicine and molecular biology to the fascinating world of microbiology and virology and in providing training for medical technologists for laboratory analysis and biology laboratory technicians in our subject.
